Ok, I know it might sound strange, but if you really want to be frugal and still have fun with your kids, one great idea is to give them a common object in your home and see what they can make with it. With the summer time “I’m bored” slogan going around, this is a great way to keep them busy and not spend any money at all!
So our challenge today is “What can you make with a juice lid?” We’re talking about those silver ones that come on top of juice concentrates. Here are 7 things to do with a juice lid that my kids and I came up with:
1. Medals
Glue a ribbon to the lid and tie it around a person’s neck. To make them look prettier, add gold seal stickers, colored stars and a name using small letter stickers.
2. Stacking Toy for Toddlers
Give a stack of lids to your toddler. Allow them to roll and toss them. Voila – the cheapest toy ever!
3. Noisemaker
Nail 2 or 3 lids to a stick of wood, loose enough so that the lids rattle. Insert cotton balls in your ears and let the kids play.
4. Reflectors
Use a lid to mark your mailbox or the end of the driveway where there is no streetlight.
5. The Flower Aid Pot
Punch holes and put one in the bottom of a flower pot. As it rusts, the iron nourishes the plant.
6. Wind Chimes
Hang lids from a line close enough to the each other to hit each other as a breeze blows by. Get creative with this one!
7. Suit of Armor
Poke holes near the edges of the lids and tie together with a thin metal wire. Start saving now for Halloween – best homemade costume ever! Can you think of any other creative uses for a juice lid?
