Let the Magic Begin
With my last blog about whether or not Santa’s story should come with a warning and my decision to continue bringing my daughter the magic of Christmas I came across a site that allowed me the opportunity to begin just that for this holiday season.
It’s a 100% free Disney website that allows you to upload a picture of your child(ren) that then creates a video with that same picture and their name. The site then shows Santa, in a video, reporting to your child on whether or not they made the naughty or nice list for 2009.
It took me a few minutes to set it up and I got it ready to show my darling daughter. Before I showed it to her I prefaced it with these words, “You know that song where it says Santa knows when you’ve been bad or good?” She looked at me with innocent, wide eyes and responds, “Yes”. I continued, “Well, he’s ready to tell you which list you’ve made. Are you ready to see what he said?”
Insert short pause and a big smile that had, “I can believe this” written all over her face. I turned my laptop around and let the video play for her. Again those beautiful eyes lit up once more as she intently listened to every word spoken by the man in the red velvet suit himself.
It’s a short video that clearly displayed her picture and her name. For a moment I thought I might have to remind her to exhale she was so excited. Upon it’s completion she jumped up and loudly said, “I’ve been nice, Mommy! Santa said I’ve been nice!!!” and she leaped on to my lap as she wrapped her arms around my neck and gave me the biggest ‘squeezy hug’ imaginable.
We then began to sing, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” at the top of our lungs and within moments I realized that the infamous magic I once remembered as a young child was now surrounding my daughter. Let the magic begin…
