Madonna’s “Drug Shout-Out” Draws Heavy Criticism

Madge stirred up some serious controversy over the weekend by making comments that seem to glamorize drug use during a recent concert.

According to reports, Madonna was performing at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami on Saturday when she asked the crowd, “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?”

For those of you who aren’t as plugged into the techno/rave scene as the Material Girl, Molly is a slang term for MDMA – the chemical known as ecstasy. The title of the 53-year-old pop star’s upcoming album – MDNA – is also thought to be a veiled reference to the street drug.

Her behavior sparked the ire of the popular Canadian DJ Deadmau5, a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman, who voiced his anger on Facebook:

“very classy there madonna. ‘HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???’ such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f’n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! cant smack my head hard enough right now.”

I couldn’t agree more. Madonna is FIFTY THREE years old – and at this point, her whole shtick is just starting to feel really desperate. It’s like the music industry’s version of that mom who tries too hard to be cool by getting beer for her kids and their friends.

Also, she may want to re-think the black hotpants. It’s not the best look for her.
