Joshua Morrow’s Favorite Sweet Treat

Lazy Weekend Cinnamon Bread Breakfast

Recipe submitted by Tobe Morrow, modified by The Sugar Mommas

We overheard that a FOSM (Friend of Sugar Mommas) Tobe Morrow was making Cinnamon Bread, as a special treat for her husband – soap star Joshua Morrow (of The Young and the Restless).

We lifted our noses and sniffed, hoping to smell the cinnamon sugar. Visions of a lazy weekend morning, a huge thick slice of Cinnamon Bread and a g’normous mug of coffee instantly came to mind.

We almost made a surprise visit to Tobe’s doorstep in our terrycloth bathrobes and fuzzy slippers Saturday morning, coffee cup in hand. Instead, we acquired the recipe and made the Cinnamon Bread ourselves, saving a lot of embarrassment for everyone involved.

Sugar Mommas Secret – We once passed out fresh-baked Cinnamon Bread to our neighboring passengers in-flight and they were quite pleased. You know we travel with treats in our pockets or dangling from our pant loops (or so everyone seems to think). ?

Ingredients:

Topping –
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons margarine, melted

Batter –
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk (see Sugar Mommas Note)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan (or use nonstick spray) and set aside.

Topping: In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon and melted margarine. Use a fork to mix together and set aside.

Batter: Place the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl and set aside.

Place the oil and eggs in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and combine on low speed. Add in half of the dry ingredients and mix to combine. Add in 1/2 cup of the buttermilk and mix until blended. Add the remaining dry ingredients and blend. Add the second half of the buttermilk and combine until just moistened. Add in the vanilla.* Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Drizzle the prepared topping over batter. Insert a knife into the batter and use a light swirling motion to give a marbled effect.

Bake for approximately 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely.

*Sass it up! Add any inclusions that your taste buds enjoy with cinnamon such as chocolate chips, raisins, or walnuts.

Modern Variation: Make morning muffins! Remember to watch your baking times, as it will vary from the loaf.

Sugar Mommas Note: Remember if you don’t have buttermilk on hand, just place a tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a measuring cup, and then fill to the one cup line with whole milk. Perfect easy substitution.

There is NO better to wake up Saturday morning.

Happy Baking!
