A garter is an elastic band that is worn around the thigh or a suspender-like strap that is attached to a girdle and a pair of stockings. There are two main purposes for wearing garters. They can be purely functional for holding up thigh-high hosiery or they can be used as a sexy addition to your lingerie. Either way, both types of garter are easy to put on and wear in the bedroom or out on the town.
Step into the girdle and slip it up around your hips. If the girdle has eye hooks or laces, save fastening or tying them until the last step so that you can move easily to attach the garters to the hose.
Button the elastic suspenders to the buttons in the front of the girdle. These buttons will be in front of the hip joints. If the girdle has buttons on the back, attach the other set of elastic suspenders to the back of the girdle. These buttons will be located near the curve of the buttocks.
Pull on your thigh-highs.
Attach the bottom of the elastic suspenders to the tops of the thigh-highs. Some suspenders will have alligator clips and some will have buttons. The alligator clip will work well with any type of thigh-high while the button version will only be compatible with stocking that have button holes.
Pull on your thigh-high stockings.
Sit down while wearing the stockings. This will reposition the top of the stocking so that it will not slip from being stretched too high on the leg.
Slip your foot through the garter and pull it up to your thigh.
Leave around 2 inches of the stocking above the garter band.
- Don’t choose a garter band that is too small. Garters that are too small can cut off circulation to your leg. The right fit will be tight enough to hold up a stocking but loose enough that it is comfortable.
