Beauty Tips That You Can Do at Home

June 24, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

There’s no doubt that maintaining your look can cost you a great deal of money. If you want to reduce your costs, but still maintain some of your beauty rituals, try mixing up some home remedies. You can make some of the most common beauty supplies, simply using some of the ingredients you probably already have.

Face Masks

A face mask can help to soften your skin and make it look more radiant. If you have dry skin, you want a mask that uses oil to moisturize it. For example, you can take oil and cream in a 1-to-2 ratio and apply that to your skin. If your skin is oily, you want to avoid extra oils. You can apply any type of fruit juice for a natural face mask–squeeze it yourself to avoid added sugars. Wash your face thoroughly after applying any face mask.

Exfoliators

By removing the dead skin from your body, you can look your best. One way to do this is with a brush with natural bristles. Before you enter the shower, briskly rub the brush over your body, with the strokes going toward your heart. You can also make a salt or sugar scrub by filling up a small container with sea salt or sugar and mixing it with almond or olive oil. This moisturizes your skin as you exfoliate.

Hair Solutions

If your hair is dull and lifeless, it may be your shampoo that is weighing you down. Instead of changing your shampoo, try making your own out of baking soda and vinegar. First, make a past by adding some water to the baking soda. Put that on your hair and wash it out. Then, pour vinegar over your hair. The result is a natural homemade shampoo. For deep conditioning, you can put olive or almond oil directly onto your dry hair. Then, shampoo it (before getting it wet) and rinse out the soap and oil.

Dark Circles

You can get rid of dark circles by placing cold items on your eyes. Slice some cucumbers or use a cold washcloth. You may also want to try boiling some tea, then placing the used teabags in the refrigerator for several hours and placing them over your eyes once they cool. The coolness will reduce swelling, and the caffeine may restrict blood vessels, making the dark circles less visible.

Water

Water is the magic elixir in home remedies. By drinking enough water, you will hydrate your skin, which will make it appear more radiant. It also helps you to reduce water retention, helps to process the foods that you eat and prevents you from overeating. Try to drink at least eight glasses a day, and more if you can.
