Foods to Increase Sex Drive

July 27, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

You don’t necessarily have to bring food into the bedroom to enhance you and your partner’s sexual drives, though sometimes the act of feeding each other can add to the erotic experience. Whether you decide to eat foods with reputations as natural aphrodisiacs in the kitchen or in bed, a number of foods can potentially improve your sexual energy.

L-arginine Foods

Foods rich in the nutrient L-arginine, such as granola and oatmeal, can enhance male erections and increase sensations in the female genitalia, notes MSNBC. Other foods with L-arginine that can literally increase blood flow to those sensitive regions of the body include peanuts, cashews, walnuts, green vegetables, root vegetables, garlic, soybeans, seeds and chickpeas.

Foods with Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Eating foods with plenty of omega-3 fatty acids can also increase the sex drive in both men and women, according to MSNBC. Mackerel and salmon are the best choices to increase sexual energy. However, pregnant women cannot safely eat mackerel because it contains a high amount of mercury, warns the Mayo Clinic. Expectant moms should eat lower-mercury fish, like salmon, at least once a week even if they’re not looking to increase their sexual energies.

Bananas

Phallic shape aside, bananas consist of many nutrients that help enhance sexuality among women and men, according to the Ask Men website. The enzyme bromelain can boost a man’s sexual energy and even potentially reverse problems achieving or maintaining erections. Also, the potassium and riboflavin present in bananas increase emotional and physical energy in both genders which is, of course, tremendously helpful for boosting that passion in the bedroom.

Raw Oysters

Raw oysters are simply a classic aphrodisiac food for men and women alike, notes the Ask Men website. Romantic partners feeding each other raw oysters is also a potentially erotic act in itself. However, expectant moms must avoid all forms of raw meat and shouldn’t eat any type of oysters at all, warns the March of Dimes.

Mangoes, Peaches and Strawberries

Mangoes, peaches and strawberries are not only healthy, but they are also full of natural sweetness and juices which can enhance sexual activities, according to the Ask Men website.

Liver

Some women and men turn up their noses at liver, but the Ask Men website notes that this organ meat is a powerful libido-enhancer. While pregnant women can safely eat liver, they should exercise caution and not each too much of this meat while expecting, according to the March of Dimes.
