5 Celebrity Baby Names Inspired by Nature

We’re always on the lookout for celebrity baby name trends, and one thing we noticed this year is the popularity of names inspired by nature  – especially for girls.

Here’s our list of babies born this year who have something in common besides their famous parents; they all have very “earthy” names, from flora and fauna to weather and even geographic directions!

Cricket Pearl

Busy Philipps and husband Marc Silverstein welcomed their second daughter in July and chose “Cricket Pearl” for baby number two. But she’s not the only one in the family named for something found in nature… her big sister Birdie Leigh just turned five.

Luna

Drawing inspiration from the night sky, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem named their daughter Luna Encinas Cruz. Luna means moon in Spanish, and Encinas (which is Javier’s paternal surname) translates as live oak.

North West

This one is sort of a stretch, but natural elements and geography do go hand in hand. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West chose “North” for their baby girl, born June 15. TMZ quoted an unnamed insider as saying the name is more “inspirational than directional,” adding “What’s North of North? Nothing.”

Rainbow Aurora

Holly Madison picked a colorful name for her first child – Rainbow Aurora. Although it calls to mind the familiar arch in the sky, Madison says she chose the name because “there was a girl in my school a few years younger than me named Rainbow and I was so envious of her name because it was so pretty and unusual.”

Do you know anyone who chose a nature-inspired name for their little one? Share it in the comments below!
