How to Retouch Your Hair Color

January 5, 2011 by ds_365 Leave a Comment

Hair averages approximately a half-inch of growth every month. If you have gray hair, this half-inch may seem like it appears instantly after your most recent coloring. This is especially true if you have dark hair. If you normally dye your hair once a month, staring at the grays while you’re awaiting your next appointment can be frustrating. Fortunately, hair color pens are available in a variety of shades to retouch your hair color and temporarily cover your grays.

Step 1

Wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Rinse and dry your hair as normal.

Step 2

Part your hair as you normally would using a comb or brush. Remove the cap from the applicator pen.

Step 3

Twist the applicator, releasing the hair color onto the felt tip. Dab the tip onto a tissue to remove excess.

Step 4

Paint the hair color onto your grays using long, sweeping motions. Pay special attention to the gray hair located at your part and around your hairline.

Step 5

Replace the top on the hair color applicator. Allow the hair color to set for five minutes before brushing or putting on a hat.
