Fruit salad is a great summer food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It can be easily whipped up in less then five minutes and is perfect for early mornings on the run. There’s no better time to make it than when the majority of fruits are in their prime season.

Where to Start

Start off in the produce section of your local supermarket. Ask an attendant which fruits are in season and are best right now. You can put any type of fruit you want in a fruit salad. Bananas, blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupes, cherries, gooseberries, grapes, kiwis, mango, nectarines, Valencia oranges, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums & pluots, raspberries, strawberries, and watermelon are the fruits that are in season during summer. If you crave fruit salad when these fruits are not in season, canned fruits substitute and are delicious! Make sure to add the juices for extra flavor.

The Basics

Cut up the fruit into smaller pieces (ex: dice the mango, halve the grapes, throw in the blueberries) and throw them all into a bowl. Top it off with a few splashes of orange juice, making sure to cover all the fruit. Serve and enjoy for an easy and delicious summer meal!

A Twist

There are so many ways to mix up a classic fruit salad. The fruit itself is like the meat of the sandwich- there is so much more that can be added! To add some crunch, consider throwing in some granola. There are a myriad of different granolas with a plethora of flavorings and textures that mix perfectly with the fruit. Or, for some delicious protein, why not add some yogurt? Either flavored or not, yogurt will enrich your fruit salad with more taste and will make it thicker.

A Splash

Traditionally fruit salads have been made with orange juice, but today many seek alternatives to mix up the flavors. It is becoming more popular to add mojito flavoring to fruit salads! Start by mixing mint, sugar, and lime juice together in a bowl. Make sure to crush the mint with the spoon for the most flavor. Pour over the fruit salad, cover, and chill for an hour. Make sure the fruit is covered with the dressing. Try this out for a distinctive and refreshing taste that is sure to be a hit!

Get Creative!

A really fun way to make a serve fruit salad is to serve it in an edible bowl. Take a large, oval watermelon and carve it into a shape of a basket! Chop up or cube the excess watermelon and mix it in with your salad. Throw the rest of your fruit mix into the watermelon basket for a fun way to serve your guests!

Fruit salad is one of the easiest, most delicious, and most popular summer meals you can make. These seasoned fruits will never taste better and provide bountiful health benefits with many vitamins!
