Take Advantage of Summer Fruit!
Looking for a quick and easy breakfast that takes advantage of the deliciously healthy summer fruits that are currently in season? Look no further! Fruit salad is a great summer food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It can be easily whipped up in less then five minutes and is perfect for early mornings on the run. There’s no better time to make it than when the majority of fruits are in their prime season.
Where to Start
Start off in the produce section of your local supermarket. Ask an attendant which fruits are in season and are best right now. You can put any type of fruit you want in a fruit salad. Bananas, blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupes, cherries, gooseberries, grapes, kiwis, mango, nectarines, Valencia oranges, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums & pluots, raspberries, strawberries, and watermelon are the fruits that are in season during summer. If you crave fruit salad when these fruits are not in season, canned fruits substitute and are delicious! Make sure to add the juices for extra flavor.
The Basics
Cut up the fruit into smaller pieces (ex: dice the mango, halve the grapes, throw in the blueberries) and throw them all into a bowl. Top it off with a few splashes of orange juice, making sure to cover all the fruit. Serve and enjoy for an easy and delicious summer meal!
