Let’s Craft: How to Make Decorative Tags

April 29, 2012 by ModernMom Crafternoon Leave a Comment

This project comes from crafty mom Jill Alexander:

“Today I’m going to teach you how to tea-stain tags that you can use for gifts, cards or anything you want to give someone.”

Here’s how to make tea-stained tags:

Supplies

  • Tea bags
  • Large bowl
  • Tags (these can be bought at any office supply store.)
  • Cookie sheet
  • Paper towels
  • Decorative accents (stamps, ribbon, glitter)

Directions

Boil water and pour into a bowl. Place tea bags into the bowl and let them steep. This will bring out the color from the tea into the water.

Take your tags, place them inside the bowl and let them sit until they’ve reach the desired color. (Longer = darker).

Place paper towels on a cookie sheet to absorb the excess tea. Lay your tags onto the cookie sheet and let dry. If you want to create a distressed look, you can put the tags in the oven on low.

Once your tags are dry, it’s time to get creative! Use stamps, twine, whatever you want to decorate and personalize the tags.

Want to watch Jill take you through this project step by step? Check out the video below – and be sure to take a look at all the other great craft videos on the ModernMom YouTube Channel.

Planning to try this at home? We’d love to see how it turns out! Send us photos of your crafty efforts and we’ll add them to our photo gallery!
