Top Skin Care Products for Teenage Boys

December 10, 2010 by ds_48512 Leave a Comment

When you wander down the skin care aisles of your local store, it may seem that all the products designed to help teenagers fight acne and keep their skin clean are targeted at young women, not teenage boys. Fortunately, there are some skin care products that are targeted to teenage boys or that are gender neutral enough so that your son won’t be too embarrassed to use them.

Gentle Acne-Clearing Face Wash

Pimples are a part of teenage life, and boys are more likely to get them than girls, according to FamilyDoctor. Give your son a simple face wash that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which will help kill the bacteria that causes acne and dry up excess oils on his skin. Recommend that he wash his face once or twice a day.

Acne Spot Treatment

Give your son a tube of acne cream to help him battle pesky pimples that arise at the worst possible moments. Look for a clear gel or white cream if your son seems embarrassed by the tinted varieties. Have him apply the gel or cream directly to pimples before going to bed each night.

Body Wash

While some body wash smells like flowers or berries and is clearly designed for girls and women, some has a more masculine scent and is targeted at teenage boys and young men. Pick out a scent your son likes or try to match the scent of his body wash to the scent of his deodorant. If back acne or pimples all over his body are an issue, look for a body wash with salicylic acid that is designed to fight body acne.

Shaving Gel or Cream

Most teenage boys will start shaving their face at some point or another. While he can simply use soap, many find that using a cream or gel makes the process go a bit more smoothly and cuts down on the number of nicks. If your son has sensitive skin, look for a shaving product that doesn’t contain menthol, which can sometimes cause irritation, according to KidsHealth.

Sunscreen

Convince your son to wear sunscreen, at least SPF 30, every day. The brand doesn’t matter, but if your son is particularly active, he may want to get a brand that is sweat- and waterproof. He should also look for a sunscreen that won’t clog his pores. Look for a sunscreen that has been recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology so that you know you are getting an effective sunscreen.
