September 28, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Playing computer games is an activity that your preschooler will enjoy. It also helps in your child's learning development. Research published by the University of Rochester states that playing computer games could enhance a student's selective attention. Preschoolers playing computer games can take advantage of the educational content presented in a playful way that makes learning attractive and fun. If you are a Mac family, you'll find preschool computer games that are compatible with your Mac.

LittleFingers Preschool

LittleFingers Preschool features a gang of colorful characters that can lead your preschooler through six activities that include "Same/Different," "Upper/Lower Case Letters," "Numbers," "Colors," "Shapes" and "Puzzles." In "Same/Different," your child will click on the picture that is the same as the one in the red box. In the "Upper/Lower Case Letters" activity, a character named Jack will ask your child to click on a letter from the choices that include both upper and lower cases. In "Numbers," your preschooler can click on the number of beach balls in the number box and have the seals catch them. In "Colors," Patch, a dog, will call out the name of a color, and your child will try to choose the fish with the same color and click on it. In "Shapes," a character named Sally will ask your child to put the small shapes inside the large shapes above by dragging them. Finally, the "Puzzles" activity allows your child to drag pieces into correct squares to complete the puzzles. LittleFingers Preschool is a product of LittleFingers Software..

Elmo's Deep Sea Adventure

A game that stars Elmo of "Sesame Street," Elmo's Deep Sea Adventure is another Mac-compatible game for preschoolers. Developed by Mattel, the game's goal is to help Elmo find junk so that he can bring it back to Oscar's underwater station. Those who are familiar with Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street know that he lives in a beat-up trash can and loves collecting garbage and junk. In this game, he instructs Elmo to find him more junk. Elmo shows a positive attitude throughout this deep sea adventure by exhibiting enthusiasm and dedication. His character teaches patience and perseverance to young children. Elmo's Deep Sea Adventure becomes more interesting as Elmo discovers sunken cities, shipwrecks and the hidden world while meeting interesting creatures. The game consists of five activities to help kids think, solve problems, use clues, observe and make decisions. It helps hone your preschooler's memory through sequencing and matching look-alike friends. Other learning activities include deductive reasoning, rebuilding artwork in the lost city, planting in Miss Octopus' garden, experimenting and learning the underwater environment. Kids will enjoy watching the large, colorful graphics and animation.

Nemo's Underwater World Of Fun

Nemo, from Disney-Pixar's "Finding Nemo," is the main character in this interactive game. Nemo's Underwater World of Fun shows Nemo and his father, Marlin, together again, just like in the movie. In the game, your preschooler must help Nemo navigate the games in the Super Swim Challenge so that he can earn a title of Super Swimmer. Nemo's Underwater World of Fun is an interactive game, which allows your preschooler to interact with the characters from the movie. Every time your child earns five prizes in each segment of the challenge, your child's reward is to be able to watch a brief film clip that relates to the game. During the final test, Nemo must collect all the singing scallops before time runs out while avoiding a series of obstacles. Play this game with your child for hours of fun and learning.
