Helena Christensen’s Approach to Parenting: “Just Let it Happen”

Helena Christensen admits “I’m not a strict parent,” in an interview with Babble about her son Mingus.

The 41-year-old former supermodel says she is lax when it comes to her 10-year-old son’s TV and video game habits.

“I haven’t deprived him,” she explains, “because kids usually overdo [those things] for a bit but then they get over it because it’s not enough stimulation anyway.”

Her relaxed style of parenting is only a recent development, though. She admits that she “worried a lot” when she was pregnant. “The responsibility is so heavy if you think about it,” she says. “If you think too much about it, it drives you crazy.”

So, her new approach is to “just let it happen.”

“All [kids] really want is love and routine and a good night’s sleep and delicious food,” she says. “As long as [kids] feel they’re being loved, I think they can deal with anything.”
