A Little Slimmer for the Holidays

The Holiday season is here. It’s seems that retail stores make this announcement earlier and earlier every year. I am finding a wonderful aspect about this; instead of the usual 2 week before thanksgiving panic about steadily gaining weight until January 2nd, the awareness starts now, one month before the feasting. Plenty of time to see, accept, and react to what’s coming.  I am encouraging myself and all of you to get ahead of the fitness game and also curb your sweet tooth (a little) in the next 3-4 weeks.

To step up your fitness:

-Add one or even two extra cardio sessions each week for 30 min or longer.

-Add one more strength training session or yoga class each week.

Time management solutions:

-Wake up earlier on a weekday or two (this is what Michelle Obama does)

– If it’s an option, arrange with your partner to take on an extra responsibility for 3 weeks while you get some extra time to workout.

-Be a fit family and do extra walks or hikes geared towards getting your heart rate up and increasing your fitness.  It can be as little as 30 min or as long as 90 minutes.

Try and hold off on decadent desserts until it’s really time (careful at those birthday parties). Stick with fruit and yogurt for sweets. In the next 4 weeks I will put my mind to the coming glory of Thanksgiving desserts as I eat an apple or a pear with Greek yogurt.

With a little more awareness, diligence and time, maybe we all find ourselves a little slimmer and happier this holiday season!
