The 4 Tools You Need to Effectively Remove Lice and Nits

August 1, 2019 by ModernMom Staff

This post is in partnership with Welcomb.

Got lice? Don’t panic! We’ll get you through this. In fact, eliminating a lice infestation is a lot less dramatic than you might think. All you need to do to rid your child’s head of lice and nits (lice eggs) is to physically remove them with the wet combing method.

When you visit the lice removal aisle at the store, you’ll see many products that claim to kill lice. And they do! But they don’t kill nits, and that’s why they don’t work. Nits are lice eggs and as long as they remain on the head, they will continue to hatch and produce more lice. That’s why physically removing the nits from the head with the wet combing method is the only way to eliminate a lice infestation!

Here’s what you need and how it works:

#1 Water

Just your basic tap water will do the trick! The reason you want to keep your child’s hair wet is because lice freeze in place when they’re wet. That makes it easy to catch and remove them! Simply wash your child’s hair using their everyday shampoo and lightly towel dry their hair, keeping it damp.

#2 Conditioner

After the hair is shampooed, you’ll coat it in conditioner. The purpose of the conditioner is to lubricate the hair and make it easier to comb through. Remember to not wash the conditioner out! Keep it in the hair during the whole wet combing process.

#3 Detangler Comb
Once you’ve applied conditioner to your child’s head, you can comb through the hair using a wide-toothed comb to evenly spread it throughout the hair and remove any excess. It’ll also help remove any tangles.

#4 WelComb Lice and Nit Removal Comb
Now that the hair is wet and conditioned, you’ll be ready to comb out the lice and nits! But don’t use just any lice comb – you need the WelComb! The WelComb has small, rigid, evenly spaced teeth that can capture lice and nits of any size. It also has a beveled edge that allows you to get right down to the base of scalp where lice and nits live!

The wet combing method is safe, all-natural and simple. And while it’s effective, it certainly takes time and patience. You can find full lice removal instructions, including a video in both English and Spanish, at www.welcomb.com/instructions.

You can purchase all the components you need for the wet combing method at your local Dollar General in the Dollar General Lice and Nit Removal Kit with WelComb. It has all you need and nothing you don’t! The kit includes:

  • Conditioner that’s free of pesticides, harsh chemicals and ineffective oils. Its only purpose is to lubricate the hair, making it easy to comb out lice and nits.
  • A Detangler Comb to remove tangles and evenly distribute conditioner throughout the hair.
  • A WelComb to capture and remove lice and nits once-and-for-all.

Visit your local Dollar General today to purchase a kit! Or, click here to see where the WelComb is sold.
