Want a Mom Miracle? Break for Breakfast and Fuel Up for the Day

What if you could improve your child’s math and reading scores, increase their physical energy and creativity, help them develop short term memory and perk up their mood with one simple thing? Sounds like a miracle. Do you want to know what it is?

BREAKFAST!

Who would have guessed that just a simple, easy breakfast at home or at school can become your own mom miracle. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day yet more kids skip breakfast than any other meal. It can be as simple and easy as a string cheese and a whole-grain muffin, or low-fat yogurt topped with fruit and granola. Be a role model –eat breakfast with your kids. Take advantage of school breakfast programs if your kids are like mine and always running out the door without eating. Here are a few more ideas to help you and your kids get into the habit of eating a nutrient-rich breakfast.

Keep Them Handy!

Keep easy to serve breakfast foods ready to grab as they run out the door- I always had a Mom miracle grab and go bowl handy for breakfast and after school snacks.

Be Smooth!

Let your kids make their own breakfast and recipes like these two kid created smoothies: Super Nova Smoothie and Riot Smoothie (see below for links)

Break the Boredom!

Break the boredom with non-traditional items like leftovers or breakfast pizza, chocolate milk in a bowl of whole-grain cereal, cold macaroni and cheese, or a breakfast wrap with ham and cheese.

Include Nutrients!

A breakfast that includes nutrient-rich dairy can help jumpstart your day with one of the recommended 3 servings of dairy you and your family need every day for stronger bones and overall healthier bodies. What are your mom miracle breakfast ideas?
