Why a TracFone Changed Our Minds About Giving Our Pre-Teen A Cell Phone

This is sponsored post from TracFone.  Check out Andrea over at Eat Craft Parent  where she posted this.

For years and years, I was the parent who always said that my kids would never have cell phones until they were old enough to pay for their own bill.

Then my son started middle school and my tune changed.

Since he rides the bus to and from school now, and participates in sports and clubs some days, I wanted to make sure that he would be able to get a hold of me whenever he needed to.

The TracFone LG Optimus Fuel came into our lives at just the right time.

Features that make this phone great:
Android 4.4 System
3.5 inch Touch Screen Display
3G Wi-fi Connectivity
3 MP Camera
1.2 GHz Processor
MP3 Player
GPS Capabilities
Up to 10 hours of battery life

No Contracts
What I love about TracFone is that there are no contracts. You buy what you need and when you need more, you buy more. Easy! Setting up the actual phone took about 10 minutes (and really, it probably wouldn’t have taken so long had I read the directions correctly the first time).

The LG Optimus Fuel™ is perfect for a pre-teen’s first phone. It’s smaller, which fits perfectly in his hands, and also easy to store. Since he takes it to school, he can easily tuck it into his backpack during school hours, keeping it safe and sound for the day.

Kids Love It
Like most kids, my son loves that he can text with his friends, and that he can call me when he wants to go to a friend’s house after school, instead of having to come home first to ask. He uses his TracFone most to play games. The Google Play Store has over 1 million apps (of which a lot are free) and the Android system makes it easy to find appropriate games and apps for him.

To be completely honest, as a parent, my favorite feature is the year of NQ Family Guardian™ service that was provided with the phone.

This particular TracFone came as a bundle which included some exclusive SpongeBob SquarePants bonus material. Can I just tell you how much both of my kids love Spongebob? Apps, episodes, wallpapers, games……it’s just another reason why this phone is a hit in my house.

Parent Approved

To be completely honest, as a parent, my favorite feature is the year of NQ Family Guardian™ service that was provided with the phone. While I’d like to believe that my son knows what he should and shouldn’t be looking at on his phone, this service provides that extra relief of monitoring everything that happens – calls, texts, app downloads, internet history and even the photos he takes. I love that he can check-in when he gets to his friend’s house (or wherever he’s going) and even send a panic alert if he is in trouble. The panic alert will send me a message on my phone, telling me his exact location. There is also a feature called Geo-fences in which I can set up a “safe zone” for him and I will be notified when he leaves that particular area. If he is at school, I can set up the geo-fence around it and when he leaves, I will know.

In the end, I am really glad that we changed our minds and decided to allow our son to have a cell phone, especially a TracFone one. With all of the features it has, I know that getting a hold of my him, and more importantly, him being able to get a hold of me, is as easy as a touch of a button.
